Dear merSETA Stakeholders
The merSETA hereby advises you that the grant submission deadline has been extended to Sunday, 31 May 2020, in line with the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr B.E. Nzimande's announcement and publication in the Government Gazette No 43278 dated Tuesday, 05 May 2020.
The impact of the new deadline date would be that organisations, who wish to apply for mandatory and discretionary grant funding, would be required to do so by no later than Sunday, 31 May 2020.
The Grant Regulations regarding monies received by a SETA and related matters, dated 03 December 2012, No 35940, states in regulation 4(8) that the merSETA Accounting Authority may grant an extension up to a maximum of one month from the date contemplated in sub-regulation (2) for late submission of a grant subject to a written request by an organisation. This, therefore, means that the merSETA Accounting Authority may grant an extension until Tuesday, 30 June 2020.
Taking into consideration the fact that the Minister has extended the submission deadline to Sunday, 31 May 2020, the merSETA Accounting Authority may only grant an extension until and not beyond the deadline of Tuesday, 30 June 2020 to organisations who have submitted an online
extension on the National Skills Development Management System (NSDMS) by no later than Sunday, 31 May 2020.
Organisations which had applied for an extension prior to the original Thursday, 30 April 2020 deadline date, would not be required to apply for an extension again as we have accepted the original request submitted. The merSETA, however, encourages these organisations to submit their grant applications by Sunday, 31 May 2020, to ensure the grant awards can be processed speedily, resulting in payments being effected as the levies are received.
Yours in Skills Development
